We are all pretty sure Bill Belichick will be in North Carolina next year, right? Think again, says Chris Brockman, who noted on the "Rich Eisen Show" that there's still a chance that the Las Vegas Raiders could swoop in and steal him away from the ACC school. The move could be facilitated by the Raiders' minority owner, Tom Brady.
On Wednesday's edition of the "Rich Eisen Show", while Eisen mentioned other possible picks for the Raiders' head coach position, Brockman said:
"Unless they're Bill Belichick ... Tommy P is saying that multiple teams have called Bill (Belichick), including Tom Brady recently... His buyout until June 1st is $10 million. That's nothing for an owner. So if you really want Bill, go get him. That's the price tag, the price tag is $10 million. Go get him." [7:30]
That would still be a pretty radical move for Bill Belichick, who seems highly committed to his new job in Chapel Hill. After committing so heavily to the Tar Heels, a return to the NFL could be especially risky from a public relations standpoint.
Taking on the role of the Raiders' head coach would also be highly risky, as the franchise is currently struggling and could take years to become competitive again.
NFL insider reports Bill Belichick plans to remain at North Carolina for the time being
The Athletic's Diana Russini reported this Wednesday afternoon that Bill Belichick has no plans of leaving the Tar Heels at the moment. According to Russini:
"Bill Belichick has no plans to return to the NFL, per sources. I’m told his sole focus is on coaching and recruiting for North Carolina, as he continues building the Tar Heels’ future. He’s recruiting today in New Jersey."
Rumors of Belichick moving to the Las Vegas Raiders intensified following the dismissal of coach Antonio Pierce on Tuesday. Although, there are reports that the Raiders aren't the only team that has contacted Bill Belichick.
