Shilo Sanders returned to the Colorado Buffaloes during their Week 7 defeat to the Kansas State Wildcats. Sanders had been out with injury since the Buffaloes' Week 2 defeat to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
It wasn't the successful return Shilo would have wanted. He made six tackles but struggled with his footing. His performance did not go down well in the eyes of his coach and father, Deion Sanders.
Deion gave a blunt critique of his son's performance:
“I thought he played horrible. I thought he was rusty.”
Shilo acknowledged his struggles on his return and responded to his father's comments on Tuesday:
“You work to get back, then you get back and have the worst game of your life,” Sanders said, per DNVR Buffs. “It's really disappointing for me and especially the fans, you know? I've been seeing everybody turn on me and stuff, but I'm not worried about that because as soon as you do good, they'll be right back on your side. Just how they were when we won the UCF game."
“I'm not really worried about none of that. I'm worried about me getting better. I'm worried about me contributing to the team and helping us win. You know, my role, I can't be going out there not on my game. I'm the free safety. If I mess up, everybody's gonna see it. So, I gotta pay attention and be on my game at all times.”
This was his first game back after requiring surgery and rehabilitation for a fractured forearm. It is natural for a player to be "rusty" having just returned from injury.
Deion Sanders talks about Travis Hunter's return
While the game between the Buffaloes and Wildcats saw the return of Shilo Sanders, it also witnessed injury to star wide receiver/ cornerback Travis Hunter.
Hunter is one of the most explosive players in College Football, whose absence was felt by the Buffaloes at the weekend.
The status of Hunter for the Buffaloes games against the Arizona Wildcats this weekend has been revealed.
Brian Howell of the Boulder Daily Camera shared on Tuesday:
"Colorado HC Deion Sanders said CB/WR Travis Hunter ‘should play for certain' this week vs Arizona, as should WR Jimmy Horn Jr."
The presence of Hunter, as well as Shilo Sanders in the Colorado roster, makes the team stronger. These are two leaders and highly experienced players who are able to deliver key plays when needed.
With both Sanders and Hunter on the field this weekend against Arizona, the Buffaloes will aim to bounce back from last week's defeat.
