Arch Manning has become one of the most talked about backup quarterbacks in college football. The fourth-ranked Texas Longhorns can clearly play well, but Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian only seems to give him small cameo roles in the offense led by Quinn Ewers.
This has been dubbed "The Arch Package," and consistents of mostly running plays.
Here is what fans think about the package, and whether the Longhorns should keep using it as they are.
These fans think that the Longhorns should use Manning more.
"it’s not really fair to Arch to go in for 1 play that everyone knows is a run. Modify the Arch package to include him playing QB," a fan wrote.
"They should start him for the rest of the playoffs if they want to win," another fan posted.
"How about we let him throw the football? I heard he's pretty good at it.." a fan commented.
"How about letting him play for more than a down or two!!!!!!" someone wrote.
However, these fans think that the Manning package should stay as it is.
"Sark's been setting up a pass play for this package that will catch someone off guard. Save it for situations and show them only what we need to," a fan remarked.
"Yes. Just to make teams have to think about it," another wrote.
"As long as Sark isn't using him like a battering ram," a fan posted.
Finally, these fans are generally happy with the plan, but they think Manning should be allowed to throw the ball a few times.
"Arch package needs to be expanded to throwing it - he needs a few series per game not just a few plays per game," a fan wrote.
"Of course, but have Arch throw not just run teams are starting to notice!" another commented.
"If we keep it we gotta throw some passes in there," a fan posted.
Will Arch Manning be the Longhorns' starting QB?
Arch Manning has established himself as a part of the Longhorns run game. The quarterback has been used mostly for his legs when he has been on the field as a backup. This has been to counteract the lack of mobility from fellow quarterback Quinn Ewers.
However, with Ewers struggling at times since returning from his ankle injury, many Longhorns fans have wanted Arch to take over from Ewers.
While this is a nice idea and could give the Longhorns an additional boost on offense, UT coach Steve Sarkisian does not appear to have any plans to change what he is doing. The Longhorns are winning, and in the end, that's all that matters.
