The Utah State Aggies fired coach Blake Anderson on Thursday. The program cited the termination based on Anderson's alleged actions in 2023, concerning a domestic violence incident, as per The Athletic.
College football fans on X reacted to the news of Anderson's firing, with many expressing their disappointment in response to a post by the coach's lawyer, Tom Mars.
"It is a shame as he is good man and coach," one tweeted.
"Very disappointing indeed," tweeted another.
"Go get ‘em, Tom. It gives me pleasure to see a University, athletic department or otherwise, pay for their unprofessional behavior. I hold that a University should be above this. That is my standard, regardless of how many times it is not met." a user tweeted.
While many expressed disappointment at Anderson's firing, some were also pointing out that the coach should be held accountable for his actions.
"Correct. His conduct and failure to keep control of the program was disappointing. Very disappointing." one tweeted.
"We’re disappointed in Coach Anderson." tweeted another.
"As a father to a daughter that’s headed to college, way past time for these male coaches to be held accountable." another user tweeted.
Anderson's official firing on Thursday came 16 days after the school informed him that he would be dismissed. The decision was made after an external review found that the coach failed to comply with policies regarding reported cases of sexual misconduct.
In his Aggies contract, Anderson was given a notice of intent to terminate and 14 days to respond. His lawyer Tom Mars submitted a 70-page response on Monday, but Utah State made its final decision to part ways with the coach on Thursday.
A look at Blake Anderson's coaching record at Utah State
Blake Anderson was hired as the Utah State coach in December 2020. In his first season, he led the Aggies to an 11-3 record, winning the Mountain West championship.
However, Anderson struggled to replicate success at Utah State for the next two years, finishing with a 6-7 record in each of those seasons, losing both bowl games. He compiled a 23–17 record with the Aggies across three seasons.
After Anderson was given a notice of intent to terminate by Utah State, the school appointed Nate Dreiling as its interim head coach.
