Georgia coach Kirby Smart provided a key update on Jared Wilson's Achilles injury on Tuesday. Importantly, there are suggestions that the offensive linesman could feature in the Bulldogs' opener against Clemson on Aug. 31.

While talking to reporters, Smart said the player's recovery was progressing well at Georgia's fall camp.

“Jared’s doing well,” Smart said. “He’s been dealing with Achilles tendonitis. He’s been great. He’s worked on the side. He’s been able to push, but he was able to do some things yesterday and continues to ramp up his exposure and ramp up his reps. So, he’s doing well." [H/T USA Today]

On Thursday, Georiga's offensive coordinator Mike Bobo downplayed concerns about Wilson's injury:

“Jared has missed some things, but he’s gotten to do as much as possible. That’s a very important position in the offensive unit. They communicate, really to everybody, what goes on up front and Jared is still able to do that in a large majority of what we’re doing. We’re just being careful with Jared, but it also gives guys more opportunities to work at center and make those calls.” [H/T On3]

Wilson, who has been a limited participant in practice this week, is projected as Georgia's starting center for the upcoming season. He is expected to play a critical role for the Bulldogs, the top-ranked team in the country.

Furthermore, Wilson will have to work well with quarterback Carson Beck, who is tipped as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy.

Jared Wilson was recruited to Georgia by coach Kirby Smart. The player enrolled at UGA in Jan. 2023.

Wilson had a strong first year in Georgia, as the Bulldogs finished with a 13-1 record. He featured in 12 games, recording 15 tackles, of which nine were solo. He also contributed to a sack in Georgia's win over Kentucky. Heading into the 2024 season, Wilson is expected to start at center for the Bulldogs.
