One of the Georgia Bulldogs' key players suffered an injury in their Week 5 SEC game against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday.
During the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs' starting center Jared Wilson suffered an injury while the team was in the red zone and mounting a comeback.
According to Dawgs247 beat writer Jordan Hill, Wilson received treatment on the field but was forced to leave the game. He was helped off as he could not walk off "under his own power."
The team was temporarily down to its third-string center Drew Bobo with Tate Ratledge also out due to injury.
According to Rivals, Wilson returned for Georgia's next possession.
Georgia Bulldogs' comeback falls short as Alabama Crimson Tide clinch high-scoring thriller
The Bulldogs were sluggish out of the gates and found themselves staring at a 21-0 deficit after the first quarter. Jalen Milroe rushed for his second touchdown of the game to make it 28-0 before Trevor Etienne got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard with a seven-yard rushing TD.
Georgia trailed 30-7 entering the break but mounted a spirited comeback in the second half. A touchdown each from Arian Smith and Lawson Luckie, and two from Dillon Bell, gave the Bulldogs a 34-33 lead with two minutes to play.
However, Alabama immediately responded with a touchdown of its own as Milroe found Ryan Williams for a 75-yard score.
Defensive back Zabien Brown sealed the win for the Crimson Tide by intercepting Carson Beck’s pass in the end zone.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart said his players showed great strength of character to force such a finish.
"Make no mistake about it, that group we got in there, man, they're connected. They're proud. They got pride. I told them, 'Guys, I don't know what the second half is gonna look like, but I do know this, when we watch it, we're gonna find out a lot about ourselves.
"Once we had the situation we were we just had to get one moment at a time, and I didn't want to walk off the field without telling each one of them how much I appreciated how they responded to those true, tough adversities there."
With the win, the Tide improved to 4-0 (1-0 SEC), while the Bulldogs slipped to 3-1 (1-1).
