Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders aka Coach Prime had a successful season in his second year as head coach. The team had a huge turnaround after finishing last in the Pac-12 the previous season. They had a winning season for the first time since 2020, and the first time in a full season since 2016.
However, the Buffaloes also lost their opportunity to play in the Big 12 Championship Game and college football playoff because of an upset 37-21 loss to Kansas late in the season. They were then blown out by No. 17-ranked BYU 36-14 in the Alamo Bowl.
On New Year's Eve, Jason Whitlock released a YouTube video where he talked about Sanders and the Buffaloes. At around halfway through the video, Whitlock talked about how the Buffaloes did not take their preparation for the Alamo Bowl seriously, calling them out for "histrionics."
"I've seen some of the highlights, I've seen some of the histrionics of Shilo and the dancing, and all of that stuff," Whitlock said (start 5:50). "Colorado clearly had the wrong attitude and as I'm telling you all, the wrong attitude started with, they basically got to the end of this bowl thing, and they were out of money.
"They built a pay for play team, like a lot of teams, but no one is more pay for play than Deion's Colorado Buffaloes and when players weren't getting paid they started doing their own thing.
"My source also described to me that the Buffaloes spent two nights in a strip club that they basically rented out two nights in a row. Christmas and the day after Christmas. This was primarily offensive players. Did not invovle Travis Hunter because he does not go to clubs."
Coach Prime's status for Colorado next season remains up in the air
It will be interesting to see if Coach Prime allows himself to change the culture in Colorado next season. Although he has said publically that he wants to stay in Colorado, there are lots of rumors that he could go to the NFL.
Many insiders have suggested in recent months that Coach Prime could follow Shedeur Sanders to whichever team drafts him. The most likely destinations for Shedeur would be the New York Giants or Las Vegas Raiders. The New York Jets and New Orleans Saints are also rumored to be interested in hiring Deion Sanders as head coach.
