Jason Whitlock criticizes Deion Sanders' public lifestyle for alleged issues between Travis Hunter & his fiancée Leanna Lenee

Jason Whitlock has again aimed at Deion Sanders, this time for the off-field drama involving Travis Hunter and his fiancée, Leanna Lenee, at the Heisman Trophy ceremony on Dec. 8.

The situation unfolded when Hunter was announced as the 2024 Heisman winner. As the crowd stood to give him a roaring ovation, Leanna remained seated, only rising when nudged by Coach Prime.

Later, Leanna showed frustration while Hunter took photos with a female fan — a moment that quickly went viral.

On his “Fearless” podcast, Whitlock criticized Sanders’ high-profile public lifestyle in Colorado, claiming it may have influenced Hunter.

“It doesn't really matter what Deion says, and it's more about what Deion has shown him. This is where I will be critical of Deion and this whole thing. Everything's on camera at Colorado,” Whitlock said.

He advised Hunter to keep his relationship out of the spotlight and media attention. Whitlock warned the Colorado WR about social media scrutiny:

“Your marriage needs to be you, your fiancée, and God. Everybody else needs to get out all the way out.” (11:24)

Responding to social media criticism of his fiancee, Hunter defended Leanna, saying:

“You ain’t never had no girl … My girl’s been with me for five years.”

Hunter and Leanna met each other in 2019. They got engaged in February 2024, and are set to marry in May 2025.

Fans accused her of not celebrating the moment appropriately. On Monday, Lenee addressed the backlash in a TikTok video.

“When his name was called, I was going to get up,” she explained. “But his mom didn’t, so I thought, maybe I shouldn’t yet.”

She added that her decision to sit was intentional, allowing Hunter to enjoy the spotlight with his family and coach.

“I got out of the camera, purposefully, so they can have their moment,” she clarified.

Lenee also revealed she was “super excited” and emotional, choosing to soak it all in.
