Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart was forced to leave Saturday's game against No. 3 Georgia after sustaining an apparent left ankle injury. The injury occurred early in the first quarter, and Dart visibly limped as he walked off the field.
Dart seemed to have suffered the injury on the game’s second play when Georgia defenders Chaz Chambliss and Christian Miller teamed up to bring him down on a second-and-9 sack.
He briefly spent time in the injury tent before heading to the locker room for further evaluation.
Jaxson Dart Injury Update
After being injured on Ole Miss' first drive, Dart struggled to put weight on his left leg. He made his way to the injury tent and eventually to the locker room. Backup quarterback Austin Simmons stepped in and led a successful scoring drive, culminating in a 9-yard touchdown run by Ulysses Bentley. This drive tied the game at 7-7.
As the second drive progressed, Dart reappeared on the sideline with a towel over his head, which initially raised concerns about the severity of his injury. However, Dart returned to the game shortly afterward, indicating the injury might not be as severe as initially feared.
He rejoined the offense with his left ankle heavily taped and led a six-play, 44-yard drive, which resulted in a field goal from the Georgia 6-yard line. Dart completed two of three passes for 38 yards on the drive.
Jaxson Dart entered the game leading the SEC with 21 touchdowns and 3,210 passing yards on the season, completing nearly 72% of his passes. He led Ole Miss to a 7-2 record in their first nine games.
He’s also been Ole Miss' leading rusher after starting running back Henry Parrish suffered a season-ending injury earlier this year. Dart’s determination in returning to the field despite the injury reflects his importance to the team’s offense and their efforts to keep up with Georgia.
