The feud between Colorado State Rams coach Jay Norvell and Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders is well known. The rivalry began last season when Coach Prime moved from Jackson State to Boulder. Jay Norvell took personal shots at Sanders ahead of their September game, criticizing his habit of wearing a hat or sunglasses during news conferences, which Sanders took personally.

After the 2023 'Rocky Mountain Showdown,' Norvell once again threw shade at Coach Prime, saying he doesn't "think" about the Buffaloes' head coach unless the media brings it up. Former Buffaloes star Matt McChesney shared his perspective on the situation in an appearance on the "Zero 2 Sixty Podcast." McChesney said how Norvell's actions could backfire as the feud is getting out of control:

"Maybe Jay Norvell doesn't understand that not only has he taken a very personal game for the people of Colorado, but now he's escalated it to making it personal with Coach Prime and his family," McChesney said. "And Jay Norvell's son's talking s**t and his wife won shut the f**k up, everybody in the Norvell family is getting involved."

Norvell's wife, Kim, was critical of Coach Prime's son, Shedeur Sanders, on X last December, tweeting that Shedeur acted disrespectfully towards Jay when his back was turned. Norvell's son, Jaden, also made a controversial comment about Rams' Henry Blackburn hitting Buffaloes' Travis Hunter during the 'Rocky Mountain Showdown.'

When EA Sports rated Hunter with a 95 in their video game, Jaden said, "Blackburn 99 hit power, Travis Hunter strength should be a 5, hit the weight room."

"So let's just make this family fair," McChesney added. "CU people will canvas canvas cause we know the Fort Collins people aren't gonna show up, and yeah we'll come to Fort Collins to beat that a**. So I want him [Jay Norvell] to keep talking."

Matt McChesney calls Jay Norvell's team 'dirty'

When the Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado State faced off last season, Travis Hunter suffered from a lacerated liver after Henry Blackburn's late tackle on the field. McChesney recalled this incident and used it to call Colorado State's tactics "dirty."

"CSU's dirty," he said. "They were dirty last year. The hit on Travis Hunter was one of the dirtiest plays I've ever seen in a college football game ever. And I'm a nasty dirty m*********er. But that was over the top dirty"

He then went on to state that Colorado will remember all the "cheap shots" during last season's rivalry game as they gear up to face each other this upcoming season.

"If you don't think that they remember that in Boulder and all the shots that Shedeur took. Keep in mind CSU took their best shot last year at CU and lost. Now as we say, it's war time on that a** in Fort Collins and everybody in Boulder remembers."

It will be interesting to see if Deion Sanders can emerge victorious against the Colorado State Rams once again this year.
