The Florida State Seminoles are having a tough start to the season and star Jaylin Lucas will add to the team's woes. He got injured in the Seminoles' 28-13 loss to coach Bill O'Brien's Boston College Eagles in week two of college football action to drop FSU to 0-2 for the season.
During his weekly news conference, Seminoles coach Mike Norvell said the tailback would miss the rest of the season due to his injury.
"I do have some unfortunate news. Jaylin Lucas will be out for the year, sustained an injury there in our last game. Really disappointed for the young man, very talented player, explosive athlete for us, but he had an injury that will keep him out for the season," Norvell said.
"He does have a redshirt available, so he does have a couple years of eligibility left with that, but our thoughts are with him as he's jumping into the rehab part of recovery with the injury."
Jaylin Lucas will be a big miss for misfiring FSU
In addition to his duties as a kick returner, Jaylin Lucas is a running back option for the Florida State Seminoles after transferring from the Indiana Hoosiers last season where he registered 572 return yards and one touchdown.
The Seminoles seem to be in a hole after the 28-13 home loss to Bill O'Brien's Boston College, and Lucas's loss will be a big blow. He has also struggled to start the season, registering 13 yards on two carries and three catches for 39 yards.
The Seminoles' running game ranks No. 128 in the country, with 59.5 rushing yards per game. This leads to their sputtering offense, which the struggling DJ Uigalelei at quarterback is not aiding.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Lucas said he joined Florida State to play with his brother, wide receiver Ja'Khi Douglas.
"I just thought it was the best fit for me. ... I just love the way that he always gives me a call. I always wanted to play with my brother. That was my dream coming out of high school. Now we get to do it."
According to Mike Norvell, Micahi Danzy, Samuel Singleton and Kam Davis will move up the depth chart as the Seminoles attempt to jumpstart what is starting to look like a nightmare season.
Jaylin Lucas will have two years of eligibility remaining once he returns to action next season.
