Penn State became the first team to reach the semifinal of the 12-team College Football Playoff after defeating Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. The Nittany Lions were dominant in the encounter, blowing out the Broncos 31-14 at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

One thing Penn State was able to do well in the game was limiting Ashton Jeanty. The running back, who finished as the runner-up in the Heisman Trophy voting, was limited to 104 rushing yards on 30 carries with no touchdown. This is his worst performance of the season.

With Jeanty limited to no score for the first time this season as Boise State gets blown out in the game, fans haven't stopped talking. While the running showed glimpses of brilliance with superb plays, a host of fans believed the game was a reality check on his talent.

Here's a look at some of the reactions on X/Twitter:

Here are some more reactions from fans on X:

"This game is why Jeanty didn’t win the Heisman," a fan wrote.
"Barry Sanders going to bed peacefully tonight knowing his record is still intact," another fan said.
"If you give me 33 touches I will get 100 Ashton Jeanty can’t play real comp," one fan added.

Penn State wait for Georgia or Notre Dame

After getting the job done in the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday, Penn State will now wait to find out its opponent in the semifinal. The Nittany Lions will face the winner of the Sugar Bowl encounter between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on New Year's Day.

Having had a somewhat favorable opponent in the first two rounds, Penn State now faces a difficult task from here on in its bid to win the national championship. It's expected that the Nittany Lions will be considered an underdog to either the Bulldogs or the Fighting Irish in the semifinals.

With just one loss so far this season, James Franklin and his team will fancy their chances against the two powerhouses in the next round. This is despite the coach's record against top teams.

Ashton Jeanty fails to break Barry Sanders' rushing yard record

While he was on the brink, Ashton Jeanty was unable to break Barry Sanders' long-standing rushing record. He capped off an extraordinary season at Boise with 2,601 rushing yards, coming tantalizingly close to breaking the Football Bowl Subdivision record.

Sanders recorded 2,628 yards for Oklahoma State in 1988 — a feat accomplished in just 11 games. In contrast, Jeanty had the benefit of 14 games to compile his total, underscoring the exceptional nature of Sanders' achievement while highlighting Jeanty's remarkable consistency.

Jeanty, however, rose to No. 2 in single-season rushing yard record against Penn State. He overtook Melvin Gordon, who recorded 2,587 yards in 14 games for Wisconsin in 2014.
