Colorado wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. is in his fourth collegiate campaign. He suffered an injury during the Buffs' defeat against Kansas State. But Horn made a comeback last week against Arizona and put up nine receiving yards with two catches.
Jimmy Horn Jr. is playing during Colorado's Week 9 showdown against the Cincinnati Bearcats today. But did the officials nullify his touchdown?
Why was Jimmy Horn Jr.'s touchdown nullified?
During the first quarter of this Week 9 game, QB Shedeur Sanders found Horn with a short pass. The wide receiver then rushed for 57 yards to score a touchdown.
However, officials negated the touchdown because the wide receiver threw up the peace sign to defenders who were chasing him. They called Jimmy Horn Jr. for unsportsmanlike conduct which led to the touchdown being taken off the board.
The Buffs scored a few minutes later when Sanders found two-way star Travis Hunter with a three-yard TD pass. Cincinnati leveled the playing field once again when QB Brendan Sorsby found Tony Johnson with a six-yard TD pass.
However, Shedeur managed to give Colorado a seven-point lead at the end of the first half. With just a few seconds left, the QB rushed the ball four-yard to the end zone and celebrated with his iconic 'watch flex.'
Was Jimmy Horn Jr. taken out of the game?
Deion Sanders decided not to take the wide receiver out of the game despite his blunder. Earlier this week, Coach Prime had talked to his players and warned them about engaging in premature celebrations.
This warning came after UCF's Braeden Marshall fumbled the ball during the game against Iowa State. Marshall celebrated his pick-six prematurely and ended up losing the ball one yard away from the endzone. In the end, the Knights lost the game 38-35.
If Colorado emerges victorious today, then they will be eligible to participate in this year's bowl games. The last time they qualified for bowl games was during the 2016 season. Can Coach Prime help his team end their Big 12 reunion campaign on a successful note?
