Ohio State edge rusher Jack Sawyer was at the center of the Buckeyes' thrilling 28-14 win over the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday. Sawyer sacked Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, scooped up the fumbled ball and ran 83 yards to score a touchdown which put the chaotic game to bed.

Sawyer's TD came at a pivotal point with the Longhorns on the cusp of tying the game. His score secured Ohio State's spot in the national championship game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The moment Sawyer scored the TD was captured by a member of the Buckeyes marching band at Hard Rock Stadium and posted it on X on Sunday. FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt quote-tweeted the clip and compared the iconic moment to the NFL, sharing his preference for college football.

"The NFL playoffs are fantastic...I love watching these games...But CFB just has a different, deeper, more tribal feel...What an incredible clip here from @TBDBITL," Klatt tweeted.

Jack Sawyer declared an Ohio State legend

Jack Sawyer is a senior captain for the Ohio State Buckeyes and one of the talented players from the Class of 2021 who stayed with the team. He was Quinn Ewers' roommate when he was with Ohio State.

During his postgame news conference after the thrilling win, Buckeyes coach Ryan Day made a huge proclamation regarding the edge rusher's status in Ohio State history.

"I can't say enough about Jack Sawyer," Day said. "He's a guy who loves being a Buckeye, he loves his teammates. He's done everything we've asked him to do. He's a captain. He's everything that we could possibly ask for in a captain. To make a play like that in that moment. We talked about it before the game, you wanna leave a legacy behind? You become a legend. He just became a legend at Ohio State."

Sawyer has tallied 53 tackles, including eight for loss, two forced fumbles, five passes defended and eight sacks this season as part of the resilient Ohio State Buckeyes who were written off after the regular season loss to the Michigan Wolverines in "The Game."

Sawyer has the chance to entrench himself further in Ohio State lore should he help the Buckeyes win against the Fighting Irish in a game where his team opens as 9.5-point favorites according to DraftKings.
