Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is projected to get picked high in the 2025 NFL draft. Many draft analysts project that he will be the first quarterback drafted.

With rumors that Sanders will get drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, there have been comparisons to their starting quarterback, Dak Prescott. On Wednesday's edition of "Fearless with Jason Whitlock," the host compared Sanders with Prescott. However, his co-host analyst Joel Klatt disagreed strongly about the comparison.

"I disagree, I think coming out, there is a vast difference in their ability," Klatt said. "Dak Prescott even now is not as accurate as Shedeur is now. Shedeur has a much better command of the game at this point in his career. The way I would describe Shedeur is, he is a really solid combination of surgeon and artist. That is rare."
"When he is protected and he is in rhythm, it's surgical," Klatt continued. "The ball is out, it's on time, it's perfectly thrown. And when things break down, he has shown this Archie Manning style ability to get away and elude and extend the play. It's not that he's a dynamic runner, but he is an artist at extending the play.
"Now does he hold the ball too long? Yes. Do I think that needs to get better? Yes. Is that something you can coach into a player? Absolutely."

Could the Dallas Cowboys select Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL draft?

The reason why Shedeur Sanders has drawn comparisons to Dak Prescott is the Cowboys' potential interest in drafting him. If he goes to the Cowboys, he will either play behind Dak Prescott or replace him.

Before Thanksgiving weekend of the NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys (4-7) are positioned to draft 11th in the 2025 NFL draft. That would likely put them out of range to draft Sanders. Most mock drafts project that Sanders will be the first or second quarterback drafted, and he will likely go in the top five. Even if he drops a little bit, 11th is likely too late.

Thus, if Dallas is interested in drafting Shedeur, they might have to trade up. And if that happens, several analysts believe his father Deion Sanders will also follow.
