Quinn Ewers remains the biggest question mark for Joel Klatt regarding Texas. Despite Texas being a heavy favorite against Arizona State, Klatt has doubts about Ewers' ability to deliver as a match-winner.

On Monday’s episode of "The Joel Klatt Show," Klatt previewed the Texas Longhorns vs. Arizona State Sun Devils matchup on Dec. 21. He reflected on Texas’s dominant game in their CFP opener against Clemson and analyzed whether Arizona State could replicate Georgia’s success in neutralizing Texas’s offense.

Klatt specifically questioned if Ewers could ignite the passing game when needed.

“The biggest pause I have for Texas is actually Ewers – Quinn Ewers,” Klatt said. “I said this before the first game and I’ll say it again.” [24:14]

“If he’s asked to go out there and be the reason that Texas wins? I’ve got my questions about that. But, if they can just handle their business in every other area and he can just manage the game, execute the Sark game plan? Then I’m fine with Ewers. Then I’m fine with Ewers.”

While the Longhorns boast an 11-2 record and competed for an SEC title, Ewers’ NFL draft stock has taken a hit. Once viewed as a first-round pick, he now holds a mid-round grade.

As Texas sets its sights on capping the 2024 season with a national championship, the quarterback position continues to spark debate. Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers remain the focal points of this conversation as Texas prepares for its semifinal showdown with Arizona State.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers provided a positive update on his recovery from an ankle injury during Monday's Peach Bowl media day.

"I'm feeling a whole lot better than I did back then," Ewers said [ H/t Sports Illustrated].

This season, Ewers has faced two injuries, including an oblique strain that sidelined him for wins over Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State. Despite these setbacks, he appears ready to lead the Longhorns as they prepare to face the Arizona State Sun Devils on Wednesday.

The Sun Devils, led by quarterback Sam Leavitt, are eager to make a statement, with Leavitt aiming to prove he’s the “better” signal-caller. The highly anticipated matchup kicks off at noon CT on New Year’s Day at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
