Travis Hunter had a largely impressive campaign for Colorado in the 2024 college football season. The two-way star played a crucial role in the renaissance of the Buffaloes on both sides of the ball, showcasing his versatility and importance on the team's roster.

According to the oddsmakers and the opinion of several analysts, Hunter is the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, which is scheduled to be presented in New York on Dec. 14.

Travis Hunter’s teammate LaJohntay Wester jumped on to try and bolster Hunter's Heisman Trophy campaign on Friday. The wide receiver posted a superb catch made by Hunter in the game against Utah on his Instagram story, and he endorsed him for the award with his caption.

“Stamped!! Just give him his Heisman,” Wester wrote.

Wester, a senior, is second on the team in receptions (70), receiving yards (880) and touchdowns (10) and is behind Hunter in all three categories.

Travis Hunter explains what the Heisman Trophy would mean to him

As many expect Travis Hunter to win the Heisman, it is undoubtedly what he looks out for. In his appearance on “SportsCenter” on Thursday, the two-way star explained what winning the award would mean to him.

“It would mean a lot to me because, in my family, I'm the oldest out of all my siblings,” Hunter said. “So, it's going to mean a lot to them and I know it's going to mean a lot to me.

Should Hunter claim the award, he would be the first player taking snaps on the defensive side of the ball to win the Heisman Trophy since Michigan's Charles Woodson in 1997. He would also be the first Colorado Heisman winner since Rashaan Salaam in 1994.

Playing on offense and defense is a reason Travis Hunter has an edge over Boise State's Ashton Jeanty in the Heisman Trophy race. He discusses how it is an advantage to him on SportsCenter.

“It helps me out a lot because I know what I would do against myself, Hunter said (timestamp - 3:18). I know what I would do if I were a receiver going against the db and the db going against the receiver.“
“So, I know basically when a receiver lines up outside the numbers, they're trying to get inside, just basic stuff like that. It just helps knock it out the window when I'm on the field.”

Hunter was involved in a total of 1,380 snaps during the regular season. These include 670 on offense, 686 on defense and 24 on special teams. His superb level of versatility makes him stand out in the landscape, and he looks set to earn a host of other honors aside from the Heisman Trophy.
