After Nick Saban retired following the 2023 season, Alabama brought in Kalen DeBoer from Washington as his successor. Despite spending just two seasons with the Huskies, DeBoer led them to a very successful campaign last year, clinching the Pac-12 title as well as taking them to the national finals. Washington could not emerge as the victors, succumbing to the Michigan Wolverines.
For Jalen Milroe, this is an opportunity to learn from one of the best offensive minds in the country. After getting his moment to shine as the starter under Nick Saban last year, Milroe is now transitioning and learning the playbook of Kalen DeBoer. For DeBoer, this is an opportunity to do wonders with a dual-threat talent like Milroe.
During an appearance on "Next Up with Adam Breneman," Jalen Milroe spoke about transitioning from the Nick Saban to the Kalen DeBoer era in Alabama. He praised the new head coach's abilities and stated that he's been a positive influence on the program.
"It's been great, Milroe said. "Everything's a process. So you know with initially having him here, you know whenever he got here to now, it's been great for us. Great as a team. One thing that I can speak on with having Coach DeBoer here just the personal aspect of it, you know, with him, and as a quarterback, he's offensive minded.
"So I'm able to grow each and everyday with him as our head coach. Love being around him. He's been a great person around me and he speaks belief into me every single day." (11:30)
Jalen Milroe further talked about how having a coach like Kalen DeBoer put his trust and faith in you makes you want to 'play harder' for the team. Despite losing a few key players following Saban's retirement, DeBoer still has a talented roster to work with for his debut campaign in Tuscaloosa.
Kalen DeBoer is excited about working with 5-star WR prospect Ryan Williams
Following DeBoer's hire, Alabama managed to land the commitment of top wide receiver Ryan Williams. DeBoer went on to heap praise on Williams for quickly adjusting to his surroundings in Tuscaloosa and building chemistry with the team.
The head coach also said that he is 'excited' to witness how Ryan Williams grows during his stint with the Crimson Tide and flourish into a future superstar talent (via WKRG):
"It's been so amazing to see. I mean the transformation on top of how quickly he just fit in. You know, a lot of time the guys come in with the expectations, that gets hard for them, but that transition and just him fitting into the team, he's done his thing.
"I'm excited about his growth and he just retains things so well he processes and that's just made the transition very smooth."
Fans of the Crimson Tide will expect Kalen DeBoer to showcase the same results he had with the Washington Huskies last year. Can DeBoer lead Alabama to be a playoff contender in his debut campaign as Nick Saban's successor?
