The news of presidential candidate Donald Trump's possible presence for the SEC blockbuster between Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs and Kalen DeBoer's Alabama Bulldogs on Sept. 28 in Tuscaloosa has sent college football fans into a frenzy.
Multiple outlets have confirmed the rumors; however, there has been no confirmation given from the Trump administration at the moment. And plans may take a hit after another apparent assassination attempt on the former President at a golf course in Florida happened on Sunday. However, college football fans would be hoping it doesn't come to that.
Netizens quickly reacted to the update with all kinds of reactions. After all, the nation will see a new President come into power this fall. While some want Donald Trump to retake the post, some are also in favor of Democratic nominee and US Vice President Kamala Harris.
"Kirby Smart is about to have the best game of his life," one fan posted.
"This is bigger news than Taylor Swift attending a chiefs game," one fan compared this to regular Taylor Swift's attendance at Chiefs games grabbing the spotlight now that NFL season has also kicked off.
"For the love of God, get him better security than the FBI," one fan commented.
"Nice…..the “real south” loves this guy!! Security please do your job!!" another added.
"Regardless of who the candidate is… please just keep politics out of college football. It’s the one place that’s remained mainly uninterrupted by this divisiveness… I’d be saying the same thing if VP Harris planned to attend a game," one user had a no non-sense take.
"He doesnt even love college football. He doing it for photo optics!!" one fan added.
ALGOP Chairman expresses worries after second assassination attempt on Donald Trump
Security will be one of the key factors before the Trump administration takes a call on whether the presidential candidate should attend the game, knowing it will be filled with fans and that another attempt could be in the waiting among the crowd.
ALGOP Chairman John Wahl mentioned that they want Donald Trump to make a call on his attendance soon so that they can start preparing for the game. He also said that he won't be surprised if Trump decides not to attend.
“I can confirm this is something Donald Trump has been thinking about, and I think this is something he would like to do. There’s just so many logistics, especially with securing a venue with a stadium that holds tens of thousands of people, can security be where it needs to be,” Wahl said in an interview with WBRC.
Fans should know that there may be enhanced security protocols in place if Trump were to attend the game.
Nonetheless, Donald Trump has previously attended the Georgia vs. Alabama matchup. He attended the 2018 BCS National Championship, where the Roll Tide emerged triumphant under now-retired coach Nick Saban.
