Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart has come a long way in his college football journey. From having the likes of Nick Saban and Bobby Bowden as his mentors to him taking the Bulldogs to new heights, Smart has achieved a lot in the past few years.

After taking over as the coach of Georgia in 2016, Smart successfully turned them into a powerhouse SEC team and won back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022. Despite missing out on the chance to three-peat last season, Smart is already preparing for his redemption arc in 2024.

However, despite the success, there are still a few things that coach Smart wants to improve on to be a more accomplished coach of the program. During a recent interview with On3, he spilled the beans on what "keeps him up at night":

"I think reaching the full potential for each player individually," Smart said. Like, you know what, championships are great, winning games are great, kids getting drafted are great, obviously kids graduatiing is awesome. But did he reach his full potential and did I impact him did we as a program at the University of Georgia impact that young man as much as possible."

Smart then went on to give the example of Atlanta Falcons LB Lorenzo Carter, who played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs. Smart said that he was happy to be able to be a part of Carter's journey and see him flourish under his care:

"I saw especially the other day Lorenzo Carter, Atlanta Falcons and how he's got his own farm now. And he's doing his own thing and I'm like, 'Man that's really cool. I got to be part of his life.' And hope that I had some impact on him to make him work harder in life," he added.

Kirby Smart puts his faith in QB Carson Beck for 2024 season

Following Stetson Bennett's NFL transition, Carson Beck was named as the starting quarterback of Georgia in 2023. Beck put up an impressive performance for the Bulldogs on the field, leading them to a 13-1 overall campaign despite falling short of an SEC championship and a playoff berth.

Now with the new season approaching, Kirby Smart has once again set expectations high for Beck on the field. He also said the young quarterback could be a potential Heisman contender for the 2024 season:

"For a first-year starter, he [Carson Beck] did a lot of great things. Well, now this year, you've got a lot of high expectations again from Carson Beck and for Georgia. So we don't run or hide from the Heisman talk as something that he embraces. We embrace it," Smart said.
"He knows the more success we have as a team, the better that gives him a chance at some of that Heisman talk. He's certainly deserving and worth of that. And it's not something we run from," he added.

Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have already showcased their capabilities by becoming back-to-back natty champs. It will be interesting to see if they can continue their strong dominance on the field to dethrone the Michigan Wolverines next season.
