Kyle McCord left Ohio State to transfer to Syracuse for the 2024 college football season. McCord will need to have a great season to build up his draft stock.
McCord is not projected to be selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. NFLDraftBuzz has McCord as a UDFA, as does NFLMockDraftDatabase, which has McCord as their 511th-ranked player in the draft.
However, if McCord can have a solid 2024 season, he could build up his draft stock to potentially be a seventh-round pick, but the Syracuse quarterback is projected to be a UDFA.
Why Kyle McCord left Ohio State for Syracuse?
Kyle McCord was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and committed to Ohio State.
As the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes in 2023, McCord went 229-for-348 for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Despite McCord leading Ohio State to the college football playoff, he was practically forced out and entered the transfer portal.
After Ohio State lost to Michigan, McCord said he needed to transfer since he wouldn't be the Buckeyes' starting quarterback in 2025.
"We didn't get in the playoff, and we started quickly having conversations of what the future was going to look like. That's just the reality of college football now," McCord said on the "NoDestination" podcast.
"Everything moves so fast with the transfer portal window opening right after the season. So, they thought they should move in one way, and I, accordingly, thought I should move in another."
Ohio State ended up adding Will Howard through the transfer portal, while McCord surprisingly went to Syracuse. At Ohio State, McCord went 270-for-406 for 3,776 yards, 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
McCord and Syracuse will begin its 2024 season against Ohio on August 31. The Orange will have notable games against NC State, Pitt, Cal, and Miami.
