LSU Tigers star receiver Kyren Lacy was arrested on Sunday night after a warrant for his arrest was issued on Friday. Lacy finished his college career in 2024 at LSU, where he spent three years with the Tigers. He began his college career at Louisiana before transferring to LSU.
Why did Kyren Lacy get arrested?
Kyren Lacy was arrested and charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, and reckless operation of a vehicle. Lacy is accused of causing a crash on Dec. 17 that killed a 78-year-old man, Herman Hall. According to ESPN, he then fled the scene without rendering aid or calling authorities. He turned himself in on Sunday night, was jailed, and then released on $151,000 bail, according to police records.
"As Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge," a Louisiana State Police news release said, via ESPN.
"Traveling behind the pickup was a 2017 Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved left to avoid the oncoming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento."
Herman Hall, of Thibodaux, Louisiana, was a passenger in the accident and later died from his injuries. The drivers of the Cadenza and Sorento also sustained injuries, but none were life-threatening.
The crash started after Lacy 'recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated no-passing zone,' according to the Police.
Lacy ended his college career with 162 receptions for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns. In 2024, he caught 58 passes for 866 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Lacy was a four-star recruit as a prospect.
