Ole Miss welcomed back veteran running back Ulysses Bentley IV in style when he withdrew his name from the NFL Draft to return for his sixth year in college football. The influential running back was expected to be the number one running back on the depth chart but he has dropped down the pecking order as the season has progressed.

During an episode of the "Reb Talk" on Thursday, a fan asked charismatic Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin a question about which running back would step up in the team's clash against the LSU Tigers prompting the hilarious reply.

“That’s code for a (Ulysses) Bentley question,” Kiffin said. "Someone else will get carries. Hopefully, we have him and hopefully, he’ll do really well. It’s like some people think I don’t want him to do well. I don’t care who does well, I just want to win games. If this is his chance and opportunity, I think he’ll do really well."

Ulysses has been usurped by Henry Parrish Jr. who has been the team's leading rusher backed up by Matt Jones. Jones has been listed as doubtful in the week 7 injury report ahead of the Rebels' trip to Baton Rouge to face off against the LSU Tigers in a pivotal Southeastern conference clash.

Ulysses Bentley IV has slid down the depth chart

Ulysses Bentley IV has been steadily overlooked as the season has progressed and most of his game time has come in special teams. He has played in six games but only carried the ball 16 times over four games tallying 62 yards.

Henry Parrish Jr. meanwhile has distinguished himself as the team's leading running back and has registered 570 yards on 91 carries while Matt Jones has tallied 222 yards on 43 carries.

During a news conference in September, outspoken Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin addressed the puzzling circumstances surrounding Ulysses' limited role in the team this season.

"That's nothing negative about Bentley," Kiffin said. "We have a really good roster, and I've told our players that there's cost and benefit to everything. There's a huge benefit to having all these good players. The cost is that everybody doesn't get to play as much as they'd like. That's happening with a number of our players.

"This is not anything Bentley's done. The other two guys have played extremely well. Ulysses missed time in the spring, and we have great confidence in him."

In a season full of expectations for Ole Miss, the crucial game in Death Valley against the LSU Tigers could be the chance for the sixth-year running back to force his way back into consideration for the Ole Miss Rebels.
