"LANK material" "They're doubting the Tide": Alabama fans show discontentment over Alabama's spot in preseason AP Poll rankings

Alabama football was ranked No. 5 in the AP Top 25 College Football Poll that was released Monday. Heading into the 2024 college football season, this is the lowest preseason rating the Tide received since 2009.

It didn't take long for 'Bama fans to voice their discontentment on the team's preseason AP Poll rankings on X.

"LANK material," one tweeted.

"They’re doubting the Tide," another tweeted.

Meanwhile, some fans pointed out that the Tide's preseason rank was not too concerning, especially since it matters less in the bigger picture.

"The only one that matters is the last one." tweeted one fan.

"Don’t care. It is just another preseason poll," another tweeted.

Some Tide fans also took a dig at Texas for getting the No. 4 spot in the AP Top 25 College Football Poll.

"I've never seen a team(Texas) ride one win for so long The Bama win has literally carried over to the next season for them WOW #RollTide," tweeted a fan.

The Tide got the No. 5 rank in the AP Top 25 College Football Poll, behind top-ranked Georgia, No. 2 ranked Ohio State, No. 3 ranked Oregon and Texas.

Kalen DeBoer will lead Alabama into 2024 season after succeeding Nick Saban

Alabama will head into a football season under a new coach for the first time since 2007. Kalen DeBoer replaced long-time Tide coach Nick Saban after the latter announced his retirement in January this year.

DeBoer previously coached at Sioux Falls, Fresno State and Washington before being appointed as Saban's successor. He led the Huskies to the national championship game last season, but Washington lost to Michigan at the final hurdle.

Nonetheless, DeBoer has compiled a stellar 104-12 coaching record thus far. He's gained a reputation as a serial winner and many believe he was the ideal candidate to replace Saban.

Alabama will open its 2024 season by hosting WKU on Aug. 31.
