The 2025 quarterback class is full of uncertainty, and recent reports only add to the confusion. On Thursday afternoon, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck entered the transfer portal after previously entering his name into the NFL draft.
Beck was viewed as a consensus first-round pick entering the season, but turnover concerns paired with a decrease in production have quieted his day-one chatter. The transfer portal will allow Beck to return for his final season of college football to potentially play back into the first round of the 2026 NFL draft.
Entering the transfer portal, Beck will be one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the portal, with several contending teams emerging as contenders to land the two-time national champion. Following reports of his potential transfer, the Miami Hurricanes emerged as the favorite to land Beck, followed by Ohio State and Texas Tech, according to insider Pete Nakos.
This season, Beck completed 64.7% of his passes for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns with 12 interceptions, which led the Southeastern Conference.
Carson Beck declares for NFL draft
Carson Beck declared for the 2025 NFL draft on Dec. 28, just days after he underwent surgery to repair an injured ligament in his throwing elbow. Beck injured his right arm during the fourth quarter of Georgia's victory over Texas in the SEC Championship.
Beck is currently ranked as the No. 7 quarterback prospect on PFF's big board, behind Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, Jalen Milroe, Will Howard, and Riley Leonard.
He is also ranked as the No. 106 prospect overall. Sanders and Ward are the only two quarterbacks expected to go in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, with Beck's dip in numbers causing a substantial blow to his draft stock. NFL draft expert Mel Kiper ranked Beck alongside Sanders as the two top quarterbacks in the class coming into the season.
Beck is unlikely to play himself back into the first round next season with the conclusion of his sixth college season but could go off the board on day two next year, something that can't be said in this year's class.
