Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning comes from a family that has produced some of the greatest signal-callers in football. His grandfather Archie played 14 years in the NFL, while his uncles Eli and Peyton Manning are multiple-time Super Bowl winners.
However, college football analyst David Cone hilariously trolled the Super Bowl-winning Manning brothers while pointing out Arch's unique quality.
On Wednesday's episode of the "Crain and Company" podcast, host Jake Crain previewed Texas' Southeastern championship game against Georgia and discussed Arch's running game with fellow host David Cone. [Timestamp: 4:44]
"David Cone, what a world we live in," Crain said. "One of the Manning quarterbacks is a threat to run."
Cone quickly responded with a cheeky dig at Eli and Peyton.
"I know," Cone said. "Like his grandpa, not like his uncles. Like his namesake, Archie."
Both Eli and Peyton Manning built their games around their exceptional passing ability. Their rushing game, on the other hand, wasn't considered elite.
During his 16 seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants, Eli finished with 567 rushing yards and seven scores on 315 carries. Meanwhile, Peyton posted 667 yards and 18 touchdowns on 431 carries during his 18 years with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos.
Archie, on the other hand, finished his 14-year pro career with 2,197 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns while playing for the New Orleans Saints, Houston Oilers and Minnesota Vikings.
Arch Manning urged to play two years as Texas' starting QB before declaring for the NFL draft
Last month, reports claimed that scouts and agents urged Arch Manning to remain at Texas for two years as a starter. This is because NFL teams do not plan on developing quarterbacks and want the finished product when they draft players from college.
Manning is expected to get the starting role at Texas next season since Quinn Ewers will enter the 2025 NFL draft. Although Manning will be eligible to enter the draft in 2026, he could spend an extra year honing his skills at the collegiate level before potentially declaring for the 2027 draft.
