Dylan Raiola will commence his freshman season in college football at Nebraska in the 2024 season. The five-star quarterback flipped his commitment to the Cornhuskers on National Signing Day in December after he had been committed to Georgia for several months.
Ahead of the 2024 college football season, Nebraska posted a picture of Raiola on social media, which has got a lot of people talking. He had a striking resemblance to the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and three-time Super Bowl champion, Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes himself joined the fun by reacting to the picture after former teammate and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill brought his attention to it.
“That’s my lil cuzzo,” Mahomes wrote.
Matt Rhule is happy with Dylan Raiola's commitment
Since enrolling at Nebraska earlier this year, Dylan Raiola has shown a significant level of commitment as a player, according to Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule.
“Dylan’s done a great job just coming in and being one of the guys. He just shows up and he works. That’s probably a credit to Dom and Yvonne (Raiola’s parents),” Rhule said via On3.
“What Dylan has shown me is that he’s willing to put that time in and the game comes natural to him because he puts the work in and I’d say that’s really that whole room. I think that’s one reason why we brought Glenn in, so that they had somebody they could just go to full-time.”
This continues to raise the possibility of him getting the starting job as a freshman in the program. Raiola has a good chance of leading the Cornhusker’s offense in the upcoming season.
Matt Rhule on Dylan Raiola’s possibility of starting
Whether or not Dylan Raiola will be named Nebraska's starting quarterback can't be confirmed until fall camp. Nonetheless, Matt Rhule confirmed he’s been fantastic in practice and the competition is still on between the team’s three quarterbacks
"Dylan's done everything right since he's been there. If you truly believe you eat what you kill, Dylan is competing with someone who went five and three as a starting quarterback last year," Rhule said on The Pat McAfee Show.
"I want to find out if they don't feel good in the middle of camp, who shows up. I know our three (quarterbacks) are going to do that."
Heinrich Haarberg, who earned the starting role midway through last season, returns for another season and wants to retain the starting role. Freshman Daniel Kaelin is another option for the Nebraska quarterback for the upcoming season.
