It looks like the Texas Longhorns will have their star quarterback back for their first meeting with bitter rivals, the Texas A&M Aggies, in thirteen years. Quinn Ewers, who suffered a mild ankle sprain in the second quarter of the Longhorns’ victory against Kentucky last week, has been listed as probable on SEC’s injury report.
The injury didn't keep him from finishing the game, as he managed to complete 20 of his 31 passes for 191 yards along with 2 touchdowns in the 31-14 win.

When asked by reporters after the game about the injury, Ewers said:
“It’s just a little tender. Just gonna do as much treatment as I can. It was around the 50-yard line and I stepped up and kind of took off running a little bit and then kind of got hip-drop tackled. And I think he kind of just rolled up on it a little, but it’s football and stuff like that happens.”
Head coach Steve Sarkisian has also said on his media availability that Ewers was “doing OK.”
Quinn Ewers could lean on the Longhorns' running game in the 'Lone Star Showdown'
Quinn Ewers has been instrumental in Texas’ SEC-leading 10-1 record, completing 68% of his passes with an average of 232 passing yards per game. Ewers has thrown for 23 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions in 2024.
A huge game awaits this week, as the "Lone Star Showdown" is back with the Longhorns heading to Kyle Field to face the Texas A&M Aggies. If Ewers struggles for fitness in Week 14, he will have his running back committee of Quintrevion Wisner (62.6 YPG, 5.0 YPR), Jaydon Blue (55.5 YPG, 5.3 YPR), and Jerrick Gibson (37.6 YPG, 5.0 YPR) to lean on.
Ewers will look to hit the ground running, as backup quarterback Arch Manning is also at Sarkisian's disposal. Manning has already had his turn as a stand-in for two games in September when Ewers was out with an abdominal injury, and some quarters want to see the next QB edition from the Manning family under center every week.
The Longhorns look to re-ignite the bitter rivalry from their Big 12 days in the SEC this weekend, as the Longhorns and the Aggies will be facing off for the first time since 2011.
In their last meeting, Texas beat the Aggies 27-25 off a Justin Tucker field goal right at the buzzer. Texas A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC after that season and the Texas vs Texas A&M game that was played annually since 1915 was stopped. The Horns lead the head-to-head series between them 76-37-5 and will look to make that 77 here.
