College football came to a standstill as Alabama coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. This move concluded his coaching reign that brought six national championships to the Crimson Tide.
As the news of Saban's retirement reverberated, emotions surged within the college football fraternity. Texts and comments flooded his daughter, Kristen Saban's inbox, reflecting the overwhelming impact of her father's decision. Kristen shared her astonishment on Instagram, stating:
"My phone has been on Do Not Disturb for 24 hours now. Scrolling through your DM's and texts/calls. I am OVERWHELMED. Love ya mean it."
She humorously requested some time, saying:
"Give me like...3 weeks to read and respond?"
Kristen Saban, a constant presence at Alabama's home games, had been a vocal supporter throughout the 2023 season, using social media to channel her support every chance she got.
Alabama looks to replace Nick Saban
Attention now turns to who will replace the Alabama legend. The list of potential successors is extensive, with favorites including Steve Sarkisian, Dan Lanning, Kalen DeBoer, and Mike Norvell.
Sarkisian, currently in Texas, has resurrected a football powerhouse in Austin. Previously considered Saban's anointed successor, Sarkisian's return remains uncertain.
On the other hand, Lanning, who’s leading Oregon, has the chance to win a national championship with the Ducks, although the allure of Alabama may be too significant to resist.
Washington's Kalen DeBoer is dabbing with the possibility of an NFL job with the Seattle Seahawks. Fresh off a national championship game appearance, DeBoer could bring fresh energy to the Crimson Tide.
Norvell, meanwhile, is coming off an undefeated regular season at FSU.
