College Football Hall of Fame Coach Lou Holtz recently weighed in on the latest golf challenge between former President Donald Trump and American President Joe Biden. During Thursday night's CNN presidential debate, Biden threw down the golfing gauntlet, sparking interest among golf enthusiasts.
In a Twitter video, veteran coach Holtz endorsed Trump's golfing prowess and said:
“Well, the one thing I've learned [is] don't let your mouth ready to cheque your body can't cash,” Holtz said. “I have played golf with President Trump. I've never played with President Biden, but I want to tell you President Trump can play we're played in a course, he played the back tees with the pros.”
This endorsement added fuel to the debate-turned-challenge between the two leaders.
“Graham McDowell was one of the three pros we had, I was playing the front tees,” Holtz said. “It was 457 yards President Trump was my partner 457 yards. He has an 18-foot birdie putt. I mean you got to be a good golfer and do that I would just trust President Trump because he tells me something I believe in it. The other one not so much.”
According to reports, professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau even suggested hosting Trump and Biden for a match on his YouTube channel.
President Joe Biden calls out Donald Trump for a golf duel at CNN debate
During the CNN presidential debate on June 27, President Biden playfully challenged former President Trump to a golf match. Biden, known for his love of golf, teased:
"I'd be happy to have a driving contest with him,” Biden said. “I got my handicap, when I was Vice President, down to a 6." Biden then challenged Trump, saying "I'm happy to play golf if you carry your own bag."
The 81-year-old Biden seemed eager for the challenge against Trump. However, Trump quickly responded, questioning Biden's claimed handicap, saying:
"That’s the biggest lie that he’s a six handicap of all."
Biden appeared to correct himself, clarifying:
"I was an eight handicap. Yeah, eight."
The banter continued as Donald Trump criticized Biden’s golf swing, to which Biden retorted:
"You are a child."
Despite hopes for a fairway showdown, fans may have to settle for political theatrics instead.
