The Army Black Knights posted a 12th win to conclude an impressive season with a 27-6 win over Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl. QB Bryson Daily scored three rushing touchdowns in Army's run-first attack that dominated the game. RB Hayden Reed added 114 yards and his own TD.
But Daily was the story, with 127 yards rushing and three touchdowns. He set an FBS mark for most rushing TDs in a season by a quarterback with 32 rushing scores.
Army (12-2) earned its way to the Independence Bowl after winning the AAC title game over Tulane. The Black Knights lost to Navy after that game was played but had another chance to impose the throwback style of football on an opponent in the bowl.
The Black Knights had never won 12 games in a season before. Jeff Monken had previously become the first Army coach to win 11 games in a season in 2018 and now added the 12-game mark.
Louisiana Tech (5-8) wouldn't have been in a bowl at all, but Marshall had a mass transfer portal exodus after the departure of coach Charles Huff. Marshall had accepted a bowl bid but ultimately had to withdraw from the game. Tech agreed to replace Marshall, but the Bulldogs then had to face the option-heavy Army offense.
