Brian Kelly has done a great job recruiting since taking over as head coach of the LSU Tigers. While he took over the position late in the 2022 recruiting cycle, the Tigers landed the seventh-ranked recruiting class and third-ranked transfer class, according to 247 Sports. Kelly did even better in the 2023 recruiting cycle as he landed the fifth-ranked recruiting class and second-ranked transfer class.
While the 2024 recruiting cycle is far from over, the Tigers have the 2nd-ranked recruiting class as things stand. The class got even stronger as they landed a commitment from Bernard Causey. Following the news, Kelly sent out a cryptic tweet, stating:
"The State Of Football"
Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports shared the news that Causey would join the Tigers, tweeting:
"BREAKING: Class of 2024 CB Bernard Causey tells me he has Committed to LSU! The 6’1 160 CB from New Orleans, LA was previously committed to Ole Miss “I’m coming home to make a statement for the hood. LET’S DO THIS!”"
The three-star cornerback had previously committed to join the Ole Miss Rebels but announced his noncommitment on Monday, tweeting:
"Beyond grateful for the opportunity to be offered a scholarship to ole miss❤️, but at this time I will be decommiting to open up my options I want to thank the team, the coaches, and the fans for all the love I was shown, ole miss will still be an option. #pleaserespectmydecision"
What did Bernard Causey say about joining Brian Kelly's LSU Tigers?
Brian Kelly has landed his 25th prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle as Bernard Causey announced his commitment to the LSU Tigers. Speaking with Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, Causey discussed his decision, stating:
"LSU is my hometown team. Me being a hometown hero for my family, friends, and the community stands out. I also have access to the resources that I need to succeed. Me and the coaching staff have been locked in. I’m really locked in with coach Frank. He comes from where I do, so he knows how it is coming up. They plan on using me as an open field cornerback."
The Tigers, who were 6-7 the year before hiring Brian Kelly, finished 10-4 in the first year of his tenure. They sit at 6-2 entering the bye week and will visit the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 10.
