The LSU Tigers enter their first open week of the season with a record of 4-1. LSU has won four straight games since losing 27-20 in Week 1 to USC. The Tigers are coming off a 42-10 blowout win over South Alabama. The open week does come at a good time for LSU, as the Tigers are dealing with some injuries.

Tigers coach Brian Kelly spoke to the media after Tuesday's practice session and gave updates on several players. Freshman running back Caden Durham suffered an injury against South Alabama, and Kelly said he is doing fine.

“He’s doing great,” Kelly said, via On3. “100%, 1,000, a million. He’s doing chin-ups right now.”

The other key player on the list is wide receiver CJ Daniels, who is dealing with a knee injury. Luckily for Daniels, it is not a torn ACL, and Kelly said the injury diagnosis was the best-case scenario.

“He aggravated a knee, an old knee injury,” Kelly said. “But we got good reports on it. Obviously, we were concerned because he had an ACL. It was not an ACL but those are things, at first, you’re concerned. But it turned out to be the best-case scenario for us.”

After the bye, No. 13 LSU has a pivotal SEC home game against No. 12 Ole Miss (4-1) on Oct. 12.

Brian Kelly refused to comment on other injuries

After Brian Kelly commented on the two injuries, he said he wasn't going to give any other updates.

Instead, the LSU coach said the open week is not the time for him to comment on any injuries and players' status.

“You’re not going to get much from me this week on injuries,” Kelly admitted. “This is a bye week. You may not go down that road this week. Unless you guys want to hang out at Our Lady of the Lakes and stand in front of the MRI machine, whatever you guys want to do. You guys can hang out there.”

Instead, Kelly said there will be no injury report this week to say who will play or who won't. Instead, he is hoping the players heal up and will be able to play against Ole Miss.

“Injuries are concerned — that we’ll have our guys for Ole Miss,” Kelly said. “We got two weeks here. So, we’re not going to get into an injury report or say who’s probable or doubtful. We got some guys that are banged up. We expect them to be ready for Ole Miss.”

The odds of LSU making the College Football Playoff stand at +350, which implies a 22.2% chance.
