On Thursday, it was reported that top prospect Bryce Underwood flipped his commitment to Michigan. The Belleville high school quarterback, who is tipped as one of the best recruits in 2025, flipped from LSU to join the Wolverines.
However, less than a few weeks ago, former Michigan analyst Connor Stalions had joined Belleville for the high school's playoff run. This has led to some suggestions that Stalions might have had a say in turning Underwood's head toward Michigan.
On Thursday, college football analyst J.D. PicKell had an interesting take on the situation. He quote-tweeted a story by On3 from Nov. 11 which broke the news about Stalions being appointed as a coaching staff member at Belleville.
"No idea what the correlation is. But this man is on a GENERATIONAL run," PicKell wrote.
Stalions was at the center of attention during Michigan's sign-stealing scandal last season. He had allegedly purchased tickets to watch the Wolverines' opponents' games and had associates learn their plays. In one case, Stalions reportedly attended a game at Central Michigan University while wearing a disguise.
The NCAA opened an investigation into the Wolverines' sign-stealing scandal in October 2023. However, on Nov. 3, 2023, Stalions resigned from his job at Michigan.
The Wolverines went on to win the national championship, going unbeaten throughout the season, but there was some controversy along the way.
Before joining Belleville's coaching staff for the playoffs, Stalions had been working as Mumford's defensive coordinator/interim head coach and the team finished the regular season with a 1-8 record.
Stalions worked closely with Underwood at Belleville and many now believe that the former Michigan analyst might have had a hand in the quarterback's decision to join the Wolverines.
