Matthew Sluka made a stunning decision to step away from the UNLV football program in September, a few weeks into the 2024 season. The quarterback made the widely criticized decision due to an unfulfilled NIL agreement with the school which is said to be worth $100,000.
Following his exit from the Rebels in September, Sluka took a redshirt and planned to enter the transfer portal. With the 2024 college football season drawing closer to an end, the quarterback has now officially entered the transfer portal, wanting to continue his career elsewhere.
Here’s a look at three landing spots that could be suitable for the quarterback to continue his college football career:
Top three landing spots for Matthew Sluka
#1 NC State
NC State added a new quarterback via the portal ahead of the 2024 college football season. Veteran Grayson McCall was brought from Coastal Carolina to add notable strength to the team's offense. However, McCall retired late in October after suffering another concussion.
The Wolfpack will be out for another quarterback during the upcoming offseason and Matthew Sluka comes as a viable option. His experience playing in the Football Championship Subdivision will come in handy in helping the program relaunch its offense in 2025.
#2 Kentucky
Kentucky has encountered significant challenges this season in the quarterback role. Brock Vandagriff started the season as the starting quarterback but the team has had to turn to Gavin Wimsatt midway through. However, the backup option hasn’t fared better in the role.
While the team has been resilient on the defense, not getting it right at the quarterback position has played a role in its offensive struggle this season. Bringing in Matthew Sluka via the portal can help the Wildcats solve their quarterback woes ahead of the 2025 college football season
#3 Auburn
Auburn was anticipated to fare better in Hugh Freeze's second season at the program. However, things haven't turned out as expected for the Tigers due to struggles in the quarterback position. The duo of Payton Thorne and Hank Brown haven't lived up to the required standard.
The Tigers will look to avoid a similar setback in 2025 and will be out to get a new quarterback via the transfer portal. Without a doubt, Matthew Sluka comes as a brilliant option for Auburn to help resolve their quarterback struggle. His experience playing at Holy Cross in the FCS will be crucial to him thriving at the program.
