North Carolina quarterback Max Johnson suffered a season-ending injury during the Tar Heels' season opener against Minnesota. Johnson's father shared an update on his injury.

According to Brad Johnson's X post on Thursday, Johnson had a successful surgery at HCMC Hospital.

After two weeks of recovery, the North Carolina quarterback was allowed to return to Chapel Hill with his family. In his post, Johnson's father thanked the hospital's doctors and the UNC staff for their support.

"14 days ago, our son @MaxJohnson14 had a serious injury in the Minnesota game. Thank You to Dr Templeman at HCMC Hospital, UNC staff, Coach Mack Brown and all who have helped along the way. The Johnson Family made it back to Chapel Hill & look forward to recovery! #GoHeels," Brad tweeted.

The young QB began his collegiate career with LSU in 2020. He spent two seasons with the Tigers before transferring to Texas A&M in 2022. After two seasons with the Aggies, Johnson entered the portal as a graduate transfer to play for the Tar Heels this season.

At the Tar Heels, Max Johnson competed with Conner Harrell for the starting QB job following Drake Maye's departure. He was named as the QB1 of the team over Harrell and was expected to lead North Carolina throughout the 2024 campaign.

Before his injury in the game against Minnesota, Johnson registered 71 passing yards along with 10 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. With him injured, the responsibility of leading the team lies on Conner Harrell.
