Alabama controlled the first quarter, forcing a fumble on the opening drive before capitalizing with a 29-yard touchdown scamper from Ryan Williams, giving the Crimson Tide a 7-0 lead. After forcing a punt on the Bears' second drive, Alabama scored a second straight touchdown with a 14-yard pitch-and-catch from Jalen Milroe to Williams.
The Crimson Tide opened the second quarter with a 44-yard touchdown catch from Robbie Ouzts, extending their lead to 21-0. On the ensuing drive, Alabama's defense continued its dominant showing, returning a Mercer fumble for a touchdown, giving the Tide a 28-0 lead with under nine minutes remaining in the first half.
Mercer responded seven minutes later with its first touchdown courtesy of a 31-yard pass from Whitt Newbauer to Kendall Harris. Alabama answered with a 45-yard field goal to take a 31-7 lead into the half.
Alabama received the ball to open the second half and marched 64 yards in nine plays before Jalen Milroe punched in a three-yard rushing touchdown, extending the lead to 38-7. The Tide broke an eight-minute scoring drought with a 10-play, 62-yard drive capped off by a short rushing touchdown, taking a 45-7 lead.
Alabama mustered one final touchdown drive highlighted by a 31-yard pass from Austin Mack to Rico Scott.
