Texas has one of the most exhilarating atmospheres in college football. More than 100,000 enthusiastic fans cheering the Longhorns on gamedays at the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium creates an unparalleled electric in-game atmosphere.
The Longhorns opened their 2024 college football season at home on Saturday against Colorado State. That once again saw fans relive the adorable age-long traditions of the program inside a stadium atmosphere that blends passion with pageantry and pride.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was captivated by the atmosphere at the Longhorns' home ground on Saturday. Despite not attending the university, the player noted the enticing atmosphere on his social media page during the game against the Rams.
“Texas atmosphere is lit,” Tyreek Hill wrote.
Good start to the season for Texas
Texas beat Colorado State 52-0 at home on Saturday, marking a brilliant start to the season. However, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian saw areas the team need to improve as the season progresses.
“There’s always going to be some growing pains early in the season,” Steve Sarkisian said after the game, "especially (for) a first game, things show up that you got to improve upon.
"You just hope they’re not so glaring that they can kill you, and we’ve got things to improve upon and get better at. But I do think for us, this was a good start.”
The Longhorns play in the Southeastern Conference in 2024, which offers a bigger challenge than the Big 12. Nonetheless, they are widely considered a contender for the conference and national titles.
Jay Norvell disappointed at the result
It was a blowout loss for Colorado State in Austin, leaving the program’s coach Jay Norvell impressed. While the Rams weren’t expected to win the Week 1 game, a shutout loss was underwhelming.
"Obviously, disappointed at the outcome. We did some things early. The two turnovers in the first half were tough for our team to overcome. We couldn’t really do enough offensively to break through on them,” Jay Norvell said.
"They’re a very good football team. We feel like we have a good football team as well. Today wasn’t the outcome we wanted, but we’ll go back to work, and we’re looking forward to coming home the next three weeks."
Norvell will hope to achieve something better with Colorado State this season after retaining a host of top names like Tory Horton and Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi. It remains to be seen what the Rams achieve in 2024.
