Despite an electrifying 15-0 run and a national championship title, many analysts seem to have lowballed the Wolverines ahead of the 2024 season.
Since last year, Michigan lost breakout stars like JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum, and 11 other players to the 2024 NFL draft, along with, arguably, the most important piece of the puzzle, Jim Harbaugh.
While Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore will be taking forward his offensive coordinator abilities in the 2024 season, many individuals have concerns over the defensive line.
During the 2024 Big Ten media days, Moore shared his conversation with star defensive tackles Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham on similar lines:
"I think when you have any change, there’s always some kind of indecision, some kind of thought process, so there was that — they’re young, they’re kids.
"For us, the message was like, ‘Look man, you know what you came here to do. You know what this place is about, you know how I’m going to coach you, you know how we’re going to take care of you, you know the decision’s on you,’ and it wasn’t very hard for them to do that, to stay at Michigan, a place they’ve dedicated, that they trust, that they understand, that’s gonna take care of them and set them up for life.
"So that was there but those guys have been working their tails off they are not satisfied with anything. They’re very hungry. So super excited for training camp for them," he said.
Paul Finebaum predicts Michigan's future ahead of 2024 season
Despite a successful season, Michigan failed to make it to the top of the 2024 preseason media rankings, falling behind teams like Ohio State and Oregon.
After coach Harbaugh decided to move on and shift to the NFL, Michigan's Sherrone Moore was named to be the next head coach, who previously served as their offensive coordinator.
Owing to these shortcomings, tough schedules, and relatively lesser head coaching experience, Paul Finebaum gave his two cents on why he thinks Michigan will fall short of a national championship title in 2024 season.
"I don’t think (this is a rebuilding year), i think they have on the defensive side a good enough team to be a Playoff team. I think the schedule is not their friend. So, they’re gonna have to pull an upset," Finebaum said.
No doubt, it is going to be a make or break season for Moore and his coaching future at Michigan.
