The LSU Tigers have secured the commitment of Derek Meadows, a four-star high school athlete from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. Meadows is 6'5" and 200 pounds and was a track and field star in college.
Tigers fans online seemed very pleased with this bit of business from Brian Kelly and Co.:
"Smart decision young man over Alabama and Georgia", said a fan.
"BOOOM!!" said another.
However, some fans sounded less impressed:
"Antoine too soon, smh," said a fan.
"I thought he was a ND lock", said another.
Who is LSU's latest wide receiver recruit, Derek Meadows?
According to Bleacher Report, Derek Meadows is a 4-star recruit in 247Sports' composite rankings. Meadows is currently ranked as the country's No. 68 overall player, No. 10 wide receiver, and No. 1 player out of Nevada in the 2025 recruiting class.
According to 247Sports, the pacey pass catcher was named the Nevada 2023 Gatorade Track and Field Player of the Year after picking up the gold medal in the 300-meter hurdles and silver in the 110-meter hurdles at the Nevada 5A state championship.
According to 247Sports, Meadows turned down offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Washington to commit to the Tigers. It represents a major victory for the Brian Kelly-coached program, especially in the NIL-dominated climes of modern collegiate sports. These days, talents like Meadows tend to slip out of the grasp of traditional powerhouses, so credit must be given to the LSU recruitment team.
What will Derek Meadows bring to LSU?
Derek Meadows will serve as another pass-catching option for LSU's wide receiver talent factory. He brings a unique blend of speed and height to the team's roster, plus his desire to improve with every training session.
Over the past few years, the Tigers have sent Brian Thomas Jr., Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, and Malik Nabers to the NFL as first-round picks. We don't expect Meadows to get many targets initially, as the Tigers already have Kyren Lack, Chris Hilton Jr., and Aaron Anderson as established starters.
However, we will certainly hear about Meadows in the coming years, as his combination of size, speed, and skill should be properly harnessed under Brian Kelly and the rest of the Tigers coaching team.
