Last season, Mike Norvell helped the Florida State Seminoles win the ACC championship. Unfortunately, the head coach has not been very successful this year as the Seminoles have only managed to secure one victory so far.
In Week 11, they succumbed to a blowout defeat, 52-3, at the hands of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. With this loss, FSU's losing streak stretched to six games, prompting Mike Norvell to make some changes to his coaching staff.
According to reports, Norvell decided to fire offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans from his staff.
Fans took to social media to share their thoughts and opinions on this decision taken by the Seminoles' head coach. One fan felt that Norvell should also be relieved from his duty.
"Mike Norvell should be fired too, not just the OC"
Another fan agreed with the decision to make these changes to FSU's coaching staff.
"Really what took them so long? I know it's a money thing but clearly he is not it."
Meanwhile, another fan advised Norvell to look in the mirror.
"I think you're the problem bud"
This fan shared an interesting "rumor" surrounding the whole situation.
"That's not what I heard. I heard that Florida State University is closing down completely due to embarrassment of their football program. It's so sad."
Another fan believed that Mike Norvell indirectly helped these coaches find different jobs since he will be fired soon.
"He knows he's going too. He's giving them more time to start finding new jobs. He was doing them a favor."
One fan stated that FSU could go on to offer a new job to Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.
"They bout to offer Deion Sanders the biggest CFB contract of all time."
Mike Norvell releases statement on his decision to clean house
The FSU head coach released a statement where he explained the factors that led to him deciding to fire his coaching staff. He stated that the program has not been playing according to the standards they have set and these changes will help elevate it to its previous glory.
"I appreciate the work these three men have provided over the last five years with me at Florida State," Norvell said. "They are all great men with families who also have poured into our program. We had many great moments together here, and I have never doubted their passion for our players and for Florida State."
"Unfortunately, we have not upheld Florida state standard with our results on the field this season. I did not make any of these decisions lightly, but I felt changed needed to be made to elevate our program back to where we all desire it to be."
Mike Norvell also explained that co-defensive coordinator Randy Shannon will take over defensive playcalling duties while other coaches will help replace the departed ones. FSU is scheduled to take on Charleston next.
