Minnesota vs. Illinois: Game Summary

After an exchange of punts from both sides, the Gophers capitalized on a fumble recovery, kicking a field goal to take a 3-0 lead with six minutes remaining in the first quarter. The two sides exchanged punts again before Illinois tied the game at 3-3 with a field goal following an 11-play, 65-yard drive.

Minnesota responded to Illinois' field goal with an eight-play, 65-yard touchdown drive, highlighted by a 29-yard run to the endzone from Darius Taylor. Illinois then countered with a seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, highlighted by a 42-yard touchdown run from Josh McCray.

Minnesota secured a lead entering halftime with a field goal, taking a 13-10 lead into the locker rooms.

Minnesota scored the lone points of the third quarter, kicking a field goal to take a 16-10 lead into the final period.

Illinois scored the first points of the fourth quarter, capping off a five-play, 54-yard drive with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Zakhari Franklin to take a 17-16 lead in the opening minutes of the quarter.

The Gophers responded with a seven-play, 75-yard drive cemented by a touchdown pass to Jameson Geers to take back their lead with the score at 22-17 with five minutes remaining. After forcing a turnover on downs, Minnesota sealed the game with a 46-yard field goal to win 25-17.
