The Minnesota Golden Gophers traveled to Piscataway for the Saturday matchup against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Minnesota entered the matchup feeling good after an upset 25-17 win over Illinois on Nov. 2, extending their win streak to four games. The Gophers were 6-3 entering Week 11 and a 4-2 record in the Big Ten Conference play.
On the other hand, Rutgers was a modest 4-4 through eight games thus far but still had an opportunity to clinch bowl eligibility with two wins in their final four-game stretch. The Scarlet Knights (1-4 in conference play) started their season with a four-game win streak but flipped the script by losing four straight. They aimed to bounce back on Saturday after a 20-42 USC loss in their last time out.

Minnesota vs. Rutgers: Game Summary
Minnesota forced a turnover on downs on Rutgers' opening drive and capitalized with a seven-play, 65-yard touchdown, taking a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. The Scarlet Knights responded quickly, taking a 7-6 lead to cap off a nine-play, 75-yard drive.
The Golden Gophers mustered a 51-yard field goal to end the first quarter, taking a 9-7 lead into the second period of action. Rutgers maintained their hot hand offensively, marching 75 yards in 10 plays to take a 14-9 lead with under 10 minutes left in the first half. Rutgers fought off back to take a 14-9 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
The Gophers opened the second half with a 10-play, 78-yard touchdown drive, taking a 16-14 lead with nine minutes remaining in the third quarter. Both sides exchanged punts until the 7:41 time mark in the fourth quarter, when Rutgers forced a fumble and capitalized with a short touchdown run, taking a 21-16 lead.
Rutgers carried their momentum into the ensuing drive, forcing a safety and extending their lead to 23-16 with under seven minutes remaining in the game. After an exchange of punts, Rutgers mustered a 22-yard field goal to extend their lead to 26-16. Minnesota responded with a field goal, cutting the Scarlet Knights’s lead to 26-19 with one minute left to play.
Rutgers held on to secure a 26-19 upset win over Minnesota.
