Minutes after Clemson vs Texas playoff announcement, Dabo Swinney makes hilarious request to meet diehard Longhorns fan

The Texas Longhorns have made the College Football Playoff. After losing the SEC Championship game the day before to the Georgia Bulldogs, the Longhorns found out that they would be the No. 5 seed in the playoff.

They also found out they would be facing the No. 12 seed Clemson Tigers in the first round. While this matchup will definitely excite many college football fans, it also excited Clemson coach Dabo Swinney.

According to Molly McGrath, the moment it was revealed that the Tigers would be facing the Longhorns, Swinney exclaimed the following:

“I’m gonna meet Matthew McConaughey!

Matthew McConaughey is a fixture at many Texas games. He was at the Red River game, the Lone Star Showdown against Texas A&M and was seen on the sidelines at Mercedes-Benz Stadium Saturday during the SEC Championship game.

It is more than likely McConaughey will be at this playoff game against Clemson. The game being held in Austin, Texas almost guarantees his appearance. That means a meeting between him and Swinney could easily happen.

Dabo Swinney responds to his detractors

After their last-second victory against the SMU Mustangs in the ACC Championship game Saturday, Swinney responded to those who wanted to see his program fail.

“We’re at a point now where we don’t win a championship and we’ve got to fire everybody, and it’s just — same ol’ tired narratives that come up every single year when we lose a game. You can check our record versus the SEC. You can check it versus the Big Ten. You can check it versus Notre Dame because that’s really who runs college football.”

While the ACC is a Power Four conference, it features significantly weaker teams than other conferences. This means Clemson rarely gets to face teams like Texas and Alabama outside of the postseason. Swinney knows this and is asking his detractors to look at his record against these programs.
