Jace Feely, the son of former NFL kicker Jay Feely, underwent his second surgery since being a member of the Colorado Buffaloes. Jace has since been ruled out for the rest of the 2024 season.
Feely entered the year as the Buffaloes kickoff specialist and was the field goal kicker for kicks longer than 50 yards. He was an important part of the roster, but he underwent another surgery. On Tuesday, he took to social media to share his thought process following his season being over.
"Surgery #2 with the buffs lol, excited to get this done. Missing playing already!" Feely wrote. "Ended up tearing my miniscus as well so lot longer recovery, just Gods plan for my life."
After letting his fans know that he had successful surgery, Feely posted a bible verse that he uses to encourage him in his recovery.
Jace Feely began his college career at Arizona State, and after one season with the Sun Devils, he transferred to Colorado. He's in his second season with the Buffaloes. The kicker underwent cardio ablation surgery in April 2023 to help treat heart rhythm problems.
His father, Jay Feely, played 14 years in the NFL as a kicker. He went 332 for 402 in his career.
Deion Sanders praises Cristiano Palazzo for the job of replacing Jace Feely
Following Jace Feely's injury that knocked him out for the rest of the season, former Oregon Ducks kicker Cristian Palazzo replaced him on the Buffaloes' depth chart.
Palazzo has been handling kickoff duties, and Colorado coach Deion Sanders praised his new kicker.
“He (Palazzo) did a phenomenal job coming in (against Baylor),” Sanders said, via ColoradoBuffaloesWire. “We have several kickers that can can do it. These guys compete on a daily basis, even (Alejandro) Mata can can kick the ball off. We have several kickers that can do a valiant job.
"The problem is we want the ball in the end zone. Jimmy (Horn) does not get to return the ball when we’re on a kickoff return and we want that same sentiment. We don’t want them to be able to return anything. If not, we just got to bloop kick it and hope they fair catch.”
Palazzo began his college career at Oregon and ended up being a preferred walk-on with the Buffaloes.
The Colorado Buffaloes are off to a 4-1 start. They are on their off week and will return to the field on Oct. 12 at home against No. 20 Kansas State (4-1).
