While getting ready for the Heisman ceremony on Saturday, Colorado's Shedeur Sanders flashed one of the most expensive watches in his collection. The timepiece in question was an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Skeleton.
One of the sources publishing the video claimed the watch is valued at $295,000, although a quick internet search has the price between $64,000 to $700,000.
Fans in general, didn't seem to like this flex.
"Where did a college student get 295k for a watch? Gift? Parents?" one asked.
"Money can't buy class," one fan wrote.
"Are we supposed to be impressed?" one fan asked.
"When college athletes get NIL money they don’t yet understand that the the IRS is going to take half of that. So spending $295,000 on a watch may have been a Serious rookie mistake," another added.
Others thought that there was a double standard when it came to treating collegiate athletes.
"But Caitlyn Clark is out there apologizing for her privilege," one said.
However, some did point out that given his NIL money and the wealth of his father, this wasn't that big of a purchase for Shedeur Sanders:
"That's nothing to him he been rich all his life," one user wrote.
Shedeur Sanders favorite to go first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
A year ago, it would have seemed unlikely that Shedeur Sanders could be drafted first overall. No one would have argued that the Colorado quarterback might be a first-round pick, but the first-overall pick appeared out of reach.
However, following an impressive 2024 season, leading the Buffaloes to a winning 9-3 season, he is the favorite to be picked first overall in 2025, according to FanDuel.
The betting site listed his odds at -125, and he's routinely being picked in the top three in the experts' NFL mock drafts. That's on the back of a 2024 season that saw him record 3,926 yards, 35 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 74.2% of his passes. He also had four rushing touchdowns.
