Carson Beck is moving fast. After Georgia's 22-19 overtime victory against Texas in the SEC Championship Game, the quarterback declared for the NFL draft. But on Thursday, he withdrew his name and instead entered the transfer portal. And now he is with the Miami Hurricanes.
According to The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, Beck is set to earn "a little over $3 million" from the University of Miami's NIL collective and channels. This is almost double what 2024 Heisman finalist Cam Ward earned ($1.6 million) for the 2024 season with the Hurricanes.
This caused chatter among netizens after Beck's reported income was revealed.
"Money laundering," one fan said.
"Cost back is not worth $3 million. He’s definitely one of those quarterbacks that surround the class made him better than what he really was which is a game manager," one fan commented.
"Overrated. Example: Quinn Ewers," another said.
"I love @CanesFootball but hate this. Money has corrupted college sports and don’t it think it will ever be the same," another fan wrote.
"This deal will not age well," one fan commented.
"So the collective thinks Beck is better or worth more than Ward...😆" one fan added.
One fan cracked a joke at the expense of the quarterback and his girlfriend, Hanna Cavinder, who plays for the Miami Hurricanes women's basketball team.
"Miami’s collective also gave him Hanna Cavinder," one fan commented.
Carson Beck's agent on his decision to transfer to Miami
NIL was possibly a huge factor in Carson Beck's decision. His agent Dan Everett said (via cbssports.com):
"Miami is a terrific market and we are pumped for Carson to become a Cane. As one of the premier faces of college football NIL, we expect his brand portfolio to continue expanding with premium and national brands. Carson will prioritize teammate inclusive partnerships that include charitable components."
Beck's reported NIL earnings for the 2025 season rival the base salaries of some of the rookie/young quarterbacks in the NFL. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson's base salary is $3.84 million. Former Heisman winner Caleb Williams' base salary is only $960K for the 2025 season.
