Pilar Sanders made her first trip to the University of Colorado campus in February 2023. The three of her kids had just transferred to the university after their father, Deion Sanders, had taken the Buffaloes' football coaching job following his successful tenure at Jackson State.
Before then, Pilar hadn’t seen her children for a long time, and their move to Boulder in early 2023 necessitated a meeting. In a video she posted on her YouTube page a year ago, the former wife of Coach Prime made known how much they all had been anticipating the meeting.
“My babies have been calling for me over and over," Pilar said. "Literally, every single day, but mommy had to take care of some kids. On my way to see my babies, I had to jump on an aircraft. I haven't seen them for so long. I miss them so much. I'm so excited to see my babies.”
How Pilar Sanders’ kids have fared in Boulder
All three of Pilar Sanders' kids followed Deion Sanders to Colorado after representing Jackson State. They’ve been together with their father since his tenure in Jackson, Mississippi.
Shilo Sanders, who had played at South Carolina before Jackson State, had fared well at Colorado. The defensive back has been one of the most important players on the Buffaloes defense. He led the team in tackles during the 2023 season with 67.
Shedeur Sanders has had it all good since arriving in Boulder. He took over as the Buffaloes' starting quarterback immediately after he arrived in 2023. He's since established himself as one of the best signal-callers in college football.
Shelomi Sanders’ story in Boulder has been a different one. Deion Sanders' last daughter didn't find Colorado fulfilling. After a year at the university, she decided to hit the transfer portal and subsequently completed a move to Alabama A&M.
Pilar Sanders played a role in Shelomi’s transfer
Shelomi Sanders was crossed about her decision to enter the transfer portal. However, she realized it was time to move on after receiving some straightforward advice from her mother, Pilar Sanders. The guard talked about the reason behind the transfer in August.
“I don’t want to say anything too bad,” Sanders said. “It just wasn’t good energy. It wasn’t good vibes. There wasn’t enough being poured into me as a player and young lady. If I didn’t leave when I did, I promise you I would’ve quit.”
Deion Sanders, however, was not pleased with Shelomi’s decision to leave Boulder. The Pro Football Hall of Famer publicly expressed his displeasure at the move.
