Eli Gold, the former voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide, is speaking out for the first time since departing the role. Speaking on the latest episode of the "Beat Everyone: An Alabama Football Podcast," Gold said:
"I don't know what happened. I really don't. At one point, I was told that my work last year was not up to par, was not up to standards. And I listened to every broadcast that I did last year. When I got home, I got the tape that I listened to. And I guarantee you, if I felt that I wasn't doing the job that these listeners out here, if I felt that I was embarrassing myself, the listeners, or the university, I would have stepped down."
He continued,

"I was not going to be one of those guys who went on too long. But I felt I had done a good job. I thought, you know, I had done a good job, especially after being off for 22 months or whatever it was. I was satisfied with the work I did. And obviously, I guess the university was not, or somebody was not. I don't know who made the ultimate call. But that's behind me now."
Eli Gold's voice was synonymous with the Alabama Crimson Tide for three decades and a half. Gold's contract expired in June 2024, and the school did not offer him a renewal.
Eli Gold started calling Alabama football games in 1989. He served as the program's play-by-play commentator and hosted the "Hey Coach & The Nick Saban Show" on the school's Sports Network every Thursday during the college football season.
Eli Gold's time as the voice of Alabama football coincided with the most successful period in Crimson Tide history. Gold called seven National Championship games, 11 Southeastern Conference Championships, and 35 Bowl Games for the Crimson Tide.

According to ESPN, Chris Stewart is the new voice of Alabama Crimson Tide football. The program is keeping things in-house regarding Stewart's appointment.
Chris Stewart has worked for the University of Alabama in various roles since 1998. He even filled in for Gold in the 2022 college football season as the long-time broadcaster was battling cancer. Gold returned for the 2023 season in a limited role, calling home games and the Auburn game.
