The Georgia Bulldogs are one of the best defensive teams in college football and they have been playing without defensive lineman Mykel Williams. The program is gearing up for a matchup on Saturday evening against the Alabama Crimson Tide in a rematch of last season's SEC Championship Game.

While speaking to the media, Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart provided some details surrounding the injury to Mykel Williams.

"I'm hopeful. We'll see. He didn't do much last week. He got a lot of rehab Friday and Saturday and was able to run Friday and Saturday, which is positive. But he hasn't been out to practice today and we'll see how today goes."

Mykel Williams has not been able to be on the field for long this season as he suffered a Grade 2 left ankle sprain and left the Week 0 game against the Clemson Tigers in a walking boot.

Last season, he recorded 16 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and a pair of pass deflections.

He was injured when Clemson Tigers running back Phil Mafah did a low block, which was flagged for an illegal block on the play, with 6:34 remaining in the third quarter of the opening game.

Adding him back to the Georgia Bulldogs' defense will make it even more formidable than the program that has allowed 18 total points through three games.

Where could Mykel Williams get picked in the 2025 NFL draft?

With this being the third season of Mykel Williams in college football, he is going to be eligible for the 2025 NFL draft.

If he can remain healthy for the remainder of the 2024 college football season, there is a chance that he can elevate to the top pick in the draft, as many scouts have been enamored with his potential at the next level.

The first pick obviously depends on what that team needs and values, as there are going to be some great talents available. If they are looking for an edge rusher, it is a battle between Mykel Williams and the Tennessee Volunteers' James Pearce Jr.

With a 6-foot-5, 265-pound frame, it is going to be difficult to take a defender before taking Williams, granted he looks as dominant as he was last season.
